Teaching knowledge test
I can be talking about it for days on end. Yes, it is a course that prepares you for the theoretical paper-based exam, the first step in Cambridge assessment for teachers using the Communicative approach (followed accordingly by CELTA and DELTA). From this perspective, I do actually understand the flow of criticism it has suffered recently. Until I don't. Because it's not just that. Those critics might have taken it a while ago whereas the updated version of this test may be awarded with the highest marks only if you truly really fully understand how the methodology works in real life on deeper levels. That is why my courses are always blended (theory+practice). Some people even argue that having prepared thoroughly for the exam and read a variety of books and resources, you may not experience any problems with DELTA module 1.

COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING
CLT <<< CLICK ME
So what does it mean - Communicative language teaching (the one TKT exam checks your knowledge of)? These days apart from being a buzz phrase, ever so often the answer I get is: 'that's students speaking a lot in class'. Is it all there is to it? Apparently, it's not that simple. With so many people making a song and dance about the communicative approach, you could guess that speaking is just the tip of the iceberg. Seeing the bigger picture will help you deal with the previously allegedly unsolvable problems, such as classroom management, motivation, your personal burnout etc. Understanding the underlying principles of the approach will lead to seeing things differently. And seeing things from a different angle is already a huge step towards tacking any issues we may have. Let's embark on this journey together. Every single course is different, let's make the next one an adventure.
THE LEXICAL APPROACH
Topics to explore:
1. General input session (4 ac.h.), theory+practice
2. Working with texts/coursebooks/exam courses to implement the approach (a session or a series of sessions, a hands-on workshop)
3. Working with Outcomes
Formats:
1. Personal session (1-2-1, 2-2-1)
2. Group session (workshop)
3. Webinar (a talk/manual)
OBSERVATIONS
What?
Qualified feedback on your performance.
Why?
A second opinion. Let's be honest - we are all in need of it and yet we are too shy to ask for it or to hear it. I promise you nice positive and beneficial evaluation that (unlike your multiple past traumatic experiences) will pave the way for further teacher development and provide food for thought.
How?
We meet to agree on the criteria and focal points for the observation. You record your class (or I see it live) and I evaluate it according to the agreed list. Afterwards we meet again to discuss it.
Format:
1-2-1 individual sessions
